Distant spaces, close view was produced for Public Art Screens/Iolab.

Throughout the year Public Art Screens will present various international artists working with videoart relating to dance- every month a new artist will be presented with 4-5 works.
In June 2015 we presented works by Linda Birkedal.

About the films:
The footage in the films in “Distant spaces, close view” series was shoot in the years 2011-2014. The edit has been done in 2015. The works is highly personal. Body and nature is central. I am body. I am nature. Looking at the difference between nature and culture in connection to the body, this is an on-going issue Linda Birkedal has been working with for several years.

Distant voices is about longing for time that has past and will never return. It is connected to memory and trying to hold on to it in the search for what comes in the future. Balancing between the past and the future, the horizon will always change connected to time.

I breathe water (2015)

The footage is recorded during residency at Obrestad lighthouse summer 2014. For a week Linda Birkedal was living and working by the sea on the west coast of Norway. During the working period she was confronted with her fear of being alone, slow time, and darkness. Living most of her life close to the sea, this was an experience to be even closer, taking it in both day and night by swimming in the water and watching the activity on the sea, listen to the waves and smelling the ocean.

The film was shoot in Hammerfest working with the ideas to the performance of In between. It deals with the issue of always being between something or someone. It structural, dealing with light as structure, and its personal, loneliness as a choice for artistic creation. Loneliness as a positive tool, and a choice.
